Klickrent is Germany's leading digital marketplace for construction equipment rental, connecting thousands of rental partners with construction professionals

As an asset-free, manufacturer-independent platform backed by the Zeppelin Group, Klickrent aggregates real-time availability and pricing from over 3,000 partners across 4,000 rental stations nationwide.

As Senior Product Designer, I led the end-to-end redesign of key platform flows, improving the rental experience for both construction companies and rental partners while scaling the product for new markets.

Problem

Renting construction equipment in Germany has traditionally been a fragmented, phone-driven process. Project managers waste hours calling multiple suppliers, comparing quotes manually, and dealing with inconsistent availability. The existing digital experience lacked clarity, making it difficult for users to find the right machine, understand pricing, or complete a booking with confidence.

Digitizing an entire industry's rental process means understanding both sides of the marketplace. Every design decision had to work for the construction site foreman and the rental partner alike.

Challenge

How might we create a seamless digital rental experience that serves both sides of a complex B2B marketplace?

The challenge was multi-layered. On the customer side, construction professionals needed to find, compare, and book heavy machinery quickly, often under time pressure on active job sites. On the partner side, rental companies needed tools to manage availability, respond to requests, and track utilization across their fleets. The platform had to handle thousands of equipment categories, real-time pricing from distributed partners, and a booking flow that felt as simple as consumer e-commerce despite the complexity underneath.

My Role

As Senior Product Designer, I owned the design process from discovery through delivery. I worked closely with product managers, engineers, and stakeholders to identify pain points across the rental journey and translate them into actionable improvements. My focus areas included the search and filtering experience, the equipment detail pages, and the end-to-end booking flow.

I conducted user research with both construction professionals and rental partners to uncover friction points. These insights informed a redesign of the core platform experience, simplifying navigation, improving equipment discoverability, and streamlining the request-to-confirmation flow. I established a scalable design system that brought consistency across the marketplace and supported the platform's expansion into new equipment categories and international markets.

Results

The redesigned platform improved key conversion metrics across the rental funnel. By simplifying the search experience and reducing steps in the booking flow, we made it significantly easier for construction teams to find and rent the equipment they needed.

The design system I built became the foundation for all new feature development, accelerating the team's ability to ship consistently designed experiences. The partner-facing tools were also improved, reducing manual coordination and enabling rental companies to manage their fleet more efficiently through the platform.

Klickrent continued to grow its partner network and expand into new markets, with the redesigned experience supporting the platform's evolution from a startup tool into an industry-standard solution for digital equipment rental in Germany and Austria.
